Anchorage Fire Department and Wildland Urban Interface Community Action Team (WUI CAT)
The Old Seward/Oceanview Community Council is partnering with AFD, and WUI CAT to develop localized wildfire response plans, conduct drills of those plans and enhance neighborhood support networks with shared phone trees. Old Seward/Oceanview Community Council boundaries are susceptible to wildfires from homeless campfires, heavily wooded areas, sparks from the train tracks, or house fires. Please let your neighbors know and join us at our next Community Council meeting on May 13, 2026, 6:30 pm, at Rabbit Creek Church Huffman Campus at 12100 Old Seward Hwy.
Our OSOVCC committee members are Jeff Childs and Larry Blachut. To sign-up for the program or to get your questions answered, contact:
- AFD is preparing for wildfires! They conducted mutual aid drills, trained all the firefighters, AND they are installing fuel breaks, ordering equipment, and engaging the public with give-aways.
- OSOVCC Residents need to do our part by becoming familiar with Smart911, understanding Ready-Set-Go, preparing Go bags, enrolling in Fire-Wise, and hardening our properties.
- Participate in the Wildfire Open House, May 9th, from 11:00-3:00 at Hilltop Ski Area, Sprinkler Give-Aways at this event. See the link below for more details.
