Councils Breakdown

How Councils Works

Each neighborhood within the Municipality of Anchorage belongs to a Community Council district. Explore the map to search for your Council.

How Many Councils

There are 35 Community Councils, which go as far north as Eklutna Valley and as south as Turnagain Arm.

What Councils Do

Community Councils provide a direct and continuing means of citizen participation in government and local affairs.

Community Council Boundaries

Every 10 years the Municipality reviews the geographic boundaries of the Community Council districts and seeks input as to whether any boundaries between neighborhood community council districts should be adjusted. A 10-year review is required by municipal code in AMC 2.40.040. This is to ensure that the geographic boundaries of all Community Councils continue to reflect their neighborhoods, and that all citizens continue to get representation by an active, engaged community council for their area. The Municipality last conducted comprehensive boundary reviews in 2003 and 2014. Full details about the 2022 boundary review can be found on the Planning Department website.

On Tuesday, January 13, 2026 the Anchorage Assembly closed the public hearing regarding the Community Council Boundaries 10-Year Review, and adopted AO No. 2025-119 with three floor amendments. The ordinance as amended is effective immediately.

The FCC is currently waiting on the Clerk’s Office and the Planning Department to finalize all documents. Once they are available, this website will be updated to reflect the changes.
